Meet Fiona
Fiona is a beautiful, sweet, and funny 3-year old little girl with Dup15q syndrome. By the time she was 8 months old, she was having dozens of seizures a day. She continues to face significant challenges in her daily life. She just learned to walk in January of this year, but falls frequently due to low muscle tone, a common symptom with Dup15q.
In an attempt to keep her seizures in check, Fiona is kept on a very restricted diet that keeps her from sharing in typical “kid foods” with her brothers and sisters. Because she is non-verbal and has cognitive delays, Fiona frequently grows frustrated and experiences severe tantrums and occasionally self-harming behaviors. Still, there is cause for hope.
